Rightline Gear Builds a Unique Jeep Wrangler JK for the SEMA Show in Las Vegas

AIRAID Jeep Air Intake 311-132 Installed

Rightline knew that their Jeep would spend a lot of time on and off the road, so they carefully selected upgrades known for their benefits, durability, and reliability. They added AIRAID cold air intake 311-132 to their build because, frankly, Jeeps need all the help they can get when it comes to performance. They installed the intake right in the company parking lot in under an hour.

AIRAID Jeep Wrangler JK Air Intake 311-132 Installed

The AIRAID MXP system for the late-model Wrangler JK features a sealed box design. Knowing that Jeep owners would most likely use their vehicles extensively off-road, AIRAID chose to protect the filter in a closed box with an aluminum lid. The box makes use of the factory cold air inlet duct, which is capable of flowing plenty of air to the filter inside the box.

Every automotive enthusiast knows about the Specialty Equipment Marketing Association's annual trade show, and most of them anticipate seeing the coverage of drool-worthy products and over-the-top vehicles that companies and customizers alike build to showcase new products. Most of these vehicles are trailer queens; immaculately detailed and dressed up with all of the latest accessories and modifications, very few of them will ever see street use. In fact, nearly all of them arrive on trailers, most of which are enclosed so that the vehicles' immaculate paint isn't tarnished with road grime. More than a few of them don't even run. One company set out to do things a little differently for the 2015 SEMA show. Rightline Gear manufactures an innovative line of weatherproof storage bags aimed at the Jeep market, and what better way to showcase their products than by building a Jeep and then driving it from their North Carolina headquarters all the way to the SEMA show in Las Vegas? The company did just that, but due to the distances involved, they had to be careful about the accessories they added. Only durable and reliable products would get them all the way across the country and back, which is why they chose to outfit their 2013 Jeep Wrangler JK with an AIRAID cold air intake system and a few other products from trusted manufacturers.

Jeep Wrangler at SEMA with AIRAID

Most companies trailer their show vehicles to SEMA, but Rightline wanted to showcase the durability of their equipment and those of other manufacturers by driving their show vehicle all the way from North Carolina to Las Vegas. As expected there was some weather along the way. The duffle bags on the roof rack are Rightline’s waterproof storage bags, and they definitely got put to the test.

A JK was a natural choice for Rightline Gear. After all, they specialize in Jeep storage solutions and the JK is the hottest platform in the off-road market right now. The company started with a bone stock two-door Sport model, but it didn't stay stock for very long. First up was a 3-inch lift kit from MaxTrac Suspension, followed closely by a set of 35x12.50R17 BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 tires wrapped around a set of 17x9 Ultra Vagabond wheels. Bushwacker flares got the nod to help clear the larger tires, while the interior benefitted from a host of upgrades from Tuffy, Rhino Linings, Wet Okole, and several other manufacturers. Since Rightline intended to use the Jeep as a calling card on the trails following the SEMA show, the exterior was protected with OR-Fab bumpers and rock sliders, and a Bulldog winch was added just in case things got a little out of hand off-road.

Jeep Wrangler at SEMA Booth with AIRAID

After a full day getting the road grime off the Jeep, the company loaded the Jeep into their booth. The Jeep served as a calling card to showcase Rightline’s full complement of weatherproof Jeep storage solutions.

Jeeps have never been known to be powerhouses, and this is especially true of the late-model Wrangler. While the PentaStar 3.6L V6 is a vast improvement over the 3.8L in 2007-2011 Wranglers, it's still not exactly neck-snapping when you step on the throttle. However, the engine is extremely responsive to an enhanced induction, which is why Rightline reached out to AIRAID for one of their MXP cold air intake systems. A complete kit, the AIRAID MXP system replaces everything from the throttle body out. A new intake box replaces the factory unit, and a new intake tube optimizes airflow to the engine. The JK MXP system is a slight departure from other AIRAID MXP designs in that it has an airbox with a lid, as opposed to an open-style airbox like most other applications. AIRAID chose a sealed box design knowing that most Jeeps will be used off-road, and a sealed box help protect against mud and water ingestion. The box makes use of the factory cold air inlet duct, and is also compatible with popular aftermarket snorkel systems such as those manufactured by ARB and AEV. Inside the box is a premium AIRAID filter available with SynthaFlow oiled filter media in red, or SynthaMax dry filter media in red, blue, or black. Rightline chose the SynthaMax dry filter for their application, and they reported an immediate increase in throttle response as well as overall engine performance. The part number they used for installation is 311-132.

Jeep Wrangler in Moab with AIRAID

After a long trip across the country and an even longer week at the SEMA show, the Rightline crew made a small detour to Moab in order to test out their Jeep build and also reap some of the benefits of all the hard work of previous weeks.

As with most SEMA projects, the build was down to the wire, but the Rightline team was able to get the job done with some help from T and A Offroad. The Jeep made the long trip to Las Vegas without a hitch, and after a full day in the parking lot detailing the Jeep, they loaded it into the SEMA show for the week. The Jeep was a huge success for the company and attracted a lot of attention to both it and the company's innovative storage bags and storage gear. After the show, they couldn't resist driving back to North Carolina via Moab, where they spent a day checking out the slick rock trails and enjoying the benefits of all their hard work.

AIRAID offers an extensive line of cold air intake systems for Jeep vehicles, including the Jeep Wrangler Air Intakes, Jeep Cherokee Air Intakes, and Jeep Grand Cherokee Air Intakes. All of AIRAID's Jeep intake systems are designed to simply bolt into place and work with the factory tuning. Jeep Wrangler AIRAID Drop-In Replacement Air Filter Helps Deliver Power in Just Minutes

Caption

AIRAID's 863-425 drop-in replacement filter for 2012-2015 Jeep Wrangler JKs has a unique shape that makes use of all the available space in the stock air box in order to increase the surface area of the filter media. This enables the filter to go longer between cleanings.

Jeeps are a dominant force in the off-road world, and with good reason: solid axles front and rear, a compact chassis that maximizes approach and departure angles, and low-range grunt to get up and over obstacles on the trail. Jeeps were meant to be used off the pavement, but that also means that Jeep engine air filters work overtime to keep dirt and debris out of the engine. AIRAID offers a simple air filter upgrade with the 863-425 drop-in replacement filter that improves performance in just a few minutes.

Caption

In addition to the 863-425 air filter featured here, similar versions are available in red with either oiled (860-425) or non-oiled (861-425) filter media. All three filters offer similar performance benefits, so which one is best is a matter of personal preference.

Stock paper air filters do an adequate job of filtering dirty outside air, but they also introduce restrictions and they are expensive to replace. Depending on the environment, just one off-road outing can render a stock filter packed with dirt and in need of replacement. Rather than replacing a dirty stock filter, a better option is to upgrade the Jeep with a washable and reusable low-restriction air filter from AIRAID.

At first glance, AIRAID's drop-in replacement filter for 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015 Jeep JK Wranglers looks quite a bit different from a stock replacement. Rather than a traditional flat-panel filter, the AIRAID filter has a cone shape that makes use of all the available space in the stock air box. The purpose of the unique shape is to increase the surface area of the filter media, which extends service intervals and enables the AIRAID filter to last longer in dirty environments before it has to be serviced. More filter surface area also means that the AIRAID filter maintains effective filtration.

Caption

The AIRAID drop-in replacement filter for the Jeep Wrangler is washable and reusable. AIRAID recommends using the 790-558 dry filter cleaning solution on the 863-425 when it is time to service the filter. Simply follow the instructions on the back of the bottle to clean this and other AIRAID SynthaMax dry filters.

The base of the filter is constructed of a durable polyurethane material that matches the sealing surface of the air box, and the sealing edges are reinforced internally to ensure the seal is not compromised. In other words, the filter will not warp or deform once clamped into place. Though the filter appears to be quite a bit different than the stock filter, no modifications are needed and installation is as simple as replacing a stock air filter.

Aside from more filter surface area, a big advantage of the 863-425 drop-in filter for the JK is that it is washable and reusable. The filter utilizes AIRAID's exclusive SynthaMax dry blue media, meaning that no oil is needed or recommended when servicing the filter. Simply spray a liberal amount of AIRAID's filter cleaning solution on to the filter from the outside, let it soak for a few minutes, and then rinse it from the inside out using low pressure clean tap water. Let the filter air dry, and it's ready for installation.

In addition to the 863-425 that features dry blue filter media, AIRAID offers the 861-425 dry filter in red and the 860-425 filter with traditional SynthaFlow oiled filter media.

The 860-425, 861-425, and 863-425 drop-in replacement filters fit the following vehicles:

2015 Jeep Wrangler 3.6L V6
2014 Jeep Wrangler 3.6L V6
2013 Jeep Wrangler 3.6L V6
2012 Jeep Wrangler 3.6L V6

AIRAID Track Day Air Filters Give You an Edge on the Competition

AIRAID 700-450TD track day air filter

The AIRAID 700-450TD track day filter is one of our most popular sizes, featuring a 6" flange diameter and a compact height of just under 5 inches.

Racers are always looking for an edge over the competition and are willing to do anything to get a leg up. For many forms of motorsports that means adding more power, and racers spend an exhaustive amount of time and money building high-performance engines that will outperform other competitors, all in an effort to get to the top spot on the podium. Smart racers also want to protect their significant engine investments from dirt, debris, and other contaminants with an air filter, but most are also worried that an air filter might restrict airflow and therefore hurt performance. AIRAID developed their track day line of filters specifically for racers who want to maintain some level of engine protection while ensuring maximum airflow.

790-556 AIRAID air filter oil

Track day filters are shipped dry but can be oiled by the end user if needed. AIRAID highly recommends using only 790-556 AIRAID filter oil, which is specially formulated to work with AIRAID's filter media.

Racing engines have enormous airflow needs, and those needs are even more extreme with forced induction. Turbochargers and superchargers are both great ways to make power, but they also have internal components that are highly susceptible to damage from debris should it enter the intake tract. AIRAID track day filters like the 700-450TD were developed with racers in mind. All track day air filters feature the same quality construction as AIRAID filters intended for street use, including polyurethane casings that won't crack or warp over time, and a wire mesh screen for durability. Inside, track day filters include layers of cotton gauze to provide some filtration from dirt and contaminants while still maximizing airflow. To accomplish this, track day filters have fewer layers of filter media than normal performance filters intended for street use. This reduces restrictions, but it also means there is slightly less filtration than AIRAID's street filters. AIRAID track day filters are shipped dry, without any oil added, but they can be oiled by the user if desired to further enhance filtration.

799-450 pre-filter for the 700-450TD air filter

Pairing a 799-450 pre-filter with the 700-450TD is a good idea for long track sessions or situations where light moisture may be present. A pre-filter helps extend service intervals.

Because the 700-450TD is intended for racing, AIRAID highly recommends that it and other track day filters only be used in dry controlled pavement track conditions, such as a road circuit, oval, or autocross track. The 700-450TD is compatible with many production AIRAID cold air intake systems, so many daily driver or weekend racers will simply swap their normal performance filter for a track day filter once they reach their racing venue, and swap it back for the drive home. Installation takes just a couple of minutes and is no different than putting on a set of slicks or lowering air pressure as part of track prep.

The specs for the 700-450TD are as follows:
Air Filter Color: Grey
Air Filter Large End Diameter: 6 in (152 mm)
Air Filter Material: Cotton Gauze
Air Filter Shape: Tapered Conical
Base Outside Diameter: 6 in (152 mm)
Filter Material: Cotton Gauze
Flange Inside Diameter: 3.5 in (89 mm)
Flange Length: 1.375 in (35 mm)
Flanges: 1
Height: 5.875 in (149 mm)
Top Outside Diameter: 4.688 in (119 mm)
Weight: 1.5 lb (0.7 kg)

While track day filters are recommended for controlled conditions where maintaining filtration is a priority, racers might also consider AIRAID race day filters. These are built with a wire mesh screen but without any filter media and are strictly intended to keep large debris (rocks, tire marbles, etc) out of the intake tract. Available race day filter sizes can be viewed on our universal air filters page.

In addition to the 700-450TD, most other AIRAID performance filter sizes are available in track day variants, and all of them are backed by a 90-day warranty. To find an AIRAID track day filter for your application, simply visit our universal air filter page and compare the dimensions of your existing filter with the available track day options. Or, if you know the AIRAID part number for your existing filter, simply use our product search tool and enter the part number for your air filter and add a "TD" to the end. For example, a 700-470 filter is available in a track day version with part number 700-470TD.

AIRAID Custom Air Intake Kit for Classic F-Body Chevys

AIRAID's F-Body cold air dam system fits 1967, 1968, and 1969 Chevy Camaros and Firebirds

AIRAID's F-Body cold air dam system fits 1967, 1968, and 1969 Chevy Camaros and Firebirds, which were the first-generation F-body cars that remain wildly popular today. The kit includes aluminum cold air dam panels, a filter adapter, and a premium AIRAID oiled filter. It is designed to be used with AIRAID's UBI custom intake components.

Most hot-rodders are already aware of AIRAID's U-Build-It, or UBI, systems and components, which make fabricating your own custom intake system a breeze. AIRAID UBI systems were tailor-made for vehicles with engine swaps, such as street rods, muscle cars, and hot rods with performance engines. Whether it's a late-model LS engine, Ford Coyote, or shoehorning a big-block in a car that originally had a small-block or V-6, AIRAID UBI systems are a great option for any custom application. AIRAID also manufacturers a select number of vehicle-specific components for more popular applications, including GM A-bodies and F-bodies. The custom F-body cold air dam system provides a simple, bolt-on solution for any custom engine swap and adds a professional, finished look while allowing the car to benefit from all the attributes of a production cold air intake system.

AIRAID F-body CAD kits are available with 3", 3.5", and 4" filter adapters

The AIRAID F-body CAD kits are available with 3", 3.5", and 4" filter adapters to match the diameter of whatever UBI tubing is used on custom applications. The filter adapter includes a velocity stack at the filter attachment point to help promote airflow to the engine.

The AIRAID F-body cold air dam system works with all 1967-1969 Chevrolet F-bodies, including the Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird. Both first-generation Camaros and Firebirds are immensely popular with hot-rodders, as both of these vehicles were major players in the muscle car wars of the mid-'60s. These days, many classic Camaro and Firebird owners are turning to modern technology to gain performance benefits that were unheard of when these vehicles were new. Big-blocks, fuel injection, and modern LS-based small-blocks are all popular swap candidates for classic muscle. AIRAID's UBI intake tubes, carb and throttle body hats, and couplers enable builders to route the engine intake over to the core support at the front of the engine bay, where it can draw in plenty of cool outside air.

F-Body cold air intake kit

The F-Body kit provides a finished, professional look to any custom engine installation. Notice how it follows the angle of the fender brace and keeps the filter tucked away toward the core support, where the filter can draw in cool outside air. The F-Body CAD system is available in driver or passenger corner configurations.

The AIRAID F-Body cold air dam system picks up where the regular UBI components leave off with specially formed aluminum panels designed to bolt into the corner of the engine compartment where the core support meets the fender. Both driver and passenger side cold air dam components are available, so the system is versatile enough to accommodate different builds and intake layouts. The specially formed aluminum panels use existing attachment points on the core support and forms to the radii of the fenderwell, so only minor drilling of the fenderwell is needed for installation. The panels help keep the air filter isolated from hot engine compartment air, while leaving plenty of forward-facing area for cool outside air to reach the filter. These panels also serve as the attachment point for an AIRAID filter adapter that is available with a 3", 3.5", or 4" diameter opening to match the diameter of the UBI tubing used between the engine's throttle body and the filter housing. AIRAID recommends connecting the UBI tubing from the engine to the filter adapter with an available urethane hump hose, which will absorb vibration and ensure a leak-free seal.

700-461 premium oiled AIRAID air filter

The F-Body kits include a 700-461 premium oiled filter, which is large enough to handle most performance engines. Though the kits come standard with oiled filters, the 701-461 filter is available that is the same size and has SynthaMax non-oiled filter media. For an extra layer of protection and filtrations, AIRAID recommends adding a 199-469 pre-filter as well.

In addition to the cold air dam panels and filter adapter, AIRAID includes a premium oiled filter 700-461 with the F-Body kit. The filter utilizes AIRAID's SynthaFlow oiled filter media, which features four layers of cotton gauze plus an additional synthetic layer of filter media. The extra synthetic layer helps improve filtration over other aftermarket performance filters while also helping to keep the filter oil suspended in the filter media. The filter also features a urethane casing, which won't crack or warp over time. The filter has a 6" flange diameter to match the filter adapter and measures 8-inches long. The filter is plenty big enough to keep even the most extreme street performance engines supplied with plenty of airflow without introducing restrictions. Best of all, the filter carries AIRAID's exclusive "No Hassle" warranty.

Here are the available AIRAID F-Body cold air dam systems:

Tube Size Mount Intake Tube
3" Driver Side 100-250
3" Passenger Side 100-253
3.5" Driver Side 100-251
3.5" Passenger Side 100-254
4" Driver Side 100-252

The F-Body cold air dam system is compatible with the following UBI master kits:

Tube Size Intake Tube Set
3" 101-300
3.5" 101-350
4" 101-400

1996-2000 GMC and Chevy Trucks, SUVs with AIRAID Cold Air Dam Intake Get More Power

Chevy truck with first generation Vortec engine

A proven performer, these CAD systems for 1996-2000 Chevy trucks have been helping first-generation Vortecs breathe easier and make more power for nearly 20 years.

The Vortec truck engines used in late 1990 Chevys and GMCs were the best and last examples of the original first-generation small-block Chevy engine. Sometimes referred to as L31, these engines used the same basic architecture as small-blocks dating back to 1955 but benefitted from modern engineering advancements to produce excellent power with the same legendary reliability that have made GM small-blocks the performance engine of choice for decades. Add the AIRAID 202-207 Cold Air Dam (CAD) to the mix and you have a winning combination for more power.

AIRAID 202-207 Cold Air Intake System for 1996-2000 GM Trucks

Weatherstripping positioned along the top of the Cold Air Dam panels seals against the underside of the hood when closed to keep the filter isolated from hot engine compartment air. The AIRAID system also looks clean and professional once installation is complete.

First released in 1996, the Vortec heads used on these engines outperformed most previous aftermarket performance heads right out of the box, and coupled with an all-new fuel injection system, these engines produced excellent power and torque that helped Chevy trucks maintain their dominance in the world of heavy hauling. Chevrolet may have spent a lot of time developing the engine itself, but somehow they coupled it to a dated intake system that kept the engines from reaching their fullest potential. AIRAID picked up where the factory left off and developed popular Cold Air Dam Intake Systems for 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, and 2000 Chevy trucks and SUVs that unlock additional power in first-generation Vortec engines while also improving their efficiency.

The 202-207 AIRAID Cold Air Dam system for 1996-2000 GM trucks and SUVs targets the most restrictive portions of the factory intake design: the stock airbox and the paper air filter element. As the name implies, the AIRAID intake kit includes Cold Air Dam panels, which are assembled with the supplied hardware and placed in the same location as the factory airbox. The CAD panels re-use factory mounting locations for easy installation, and there is no drilling or trimming required. The location enables the intake to re-use the factory cold air inlet duct in the fender but also provides additional forward-facing area for cool outside air to reach the filter. Blade-style weather-stripping positioned along the top of the panels seals against the hood to keep the filter isolated from hot engine compartment air, so the AIRAID design essentially uses the hood as a lid for the new air box. A relatively short powder coated aluminum tube connects the air box to the mass airflow sensor (MAF) and also includes provisions for mounting the intake air temperature (IAT) sensor. This ensures that both sensors receive proper air signals to work properly with the factory tuning because like most other AIRAID intakes, this system does not require any aftermarket tuning. The new air tube connects to the MAF sensor with a special stainless steel coupler that is also supplied with the kit.

Inside the CAD panels, the new intake tube is secured to the fenderwell with a supplied bracket and hardware. The tube is capped with a premium AIRAID filter that has much more surface area for filter media compared to the factory paper flat panel filter. More filter surface area means the filter is capable of flowing additional air to the engine without sacrificing any filtration. This airflow increase, combined with being able to draw in more cool outside air, is how the AIRAID system is able to improve power and efficiency with a simple bolt-on installation.

filter wrap for AIRAID 202-207 Cold Air Intake System for 1996-2000 GM Trucks

The CAD system is available with a traditional oiled filter in red, or with a SynthaMax dry filter in red, blue, or black. Along with these filters, AIRAID offers the 799-420 filter wrap for extra protection when needed.

The AIRAID Cold Air Intake for 1996-2000 GM trucks and SUVs is available with a variety of filter choices. The 200-207 system includes a traditional SynthaFlow red, oiled filter that features four layers of cotton gauze plus an additional synthetic layer that improves filtration and helps keep the oil suspended in the filter media. The 201-207 system includes a SynthaMax dry filter in red that has multiple layers of a synthetic filter material and does not need to be oiled. The 202-207 system includes a SynthaMax dry filter in black, while the 203-207 system includes a dry filter in blue. All three SythaMax dry filters use the same filter media and offer the same performance benefits, so only the filter color is different to suit individual preferences.

Though these air intake systems were designed and released when these trucks were new, the design has withstood the test of time and remains a popular seller, and these cold air intake systems have received great reviews over the years. Best of all, like the rest of AIRAID’s intake products and cold air intake systems, these intakes are made in the USA and backed with a Limited Lifetime Warranty.
