Either system that you choose you can count on an increase of an estimated 10 additional horsepower at the rear wheels over an unmodified 2016 Chevrolet Camaro SS – which equates to a larger gain at the flywheel, where the manufacturer rates engine power.

The sixth generation of Chevrolet’s pony car was introduced in 2015. It was moved onto the Alpha platform, which it shares with some Cadillac models. This provides the opportunity for advanced technology to migrate easily between the models that share the Alpha platform. Oh, and production of the sixth generation Camaro has been moved back to the United States from Canada.

To create a 2016 Camaro SS, Chevrolet starts by installing the LT-1 Generation V small block as developed for the Corvette. And while still a pushrod design, it features high-tech upgrades like direct injection, variable valve timing and cylinder deactivation. The 6.2 L aluminum V8 produces 455 horsepower rating at 6,000 rpm and 455 lbs-ft of torque at 4,400 rpm.

Housed inside the air box is either an AIRAID SYNTHAFLOW (250-333) or SYNTHAMAX (251-333) air filter, connected to a tuned high-velocity stack to speed air into the intake tube.

The SYNTHAFLOW filter media utilizes multiple layers of cotton gauze combined with a proprietary blend of synthetic materials, resulting in a superior filtration system that allows plenty of free-flowing air for maximum performance, but not at the cost of letting contaminants through. The SYNTHAMAX air filter media consists of an inner and outer layer of wire mesh which will not deform or collapse under high air flow. The inner filter media consists of two layers of proprietary synthetic materials that have separate performance characteristics, designed to work together for a combined function of outstanding air flow (low restriction) and exceptionally high filtration.

Air is directed through a new air intake tube constructed of cross-linked, high-density polyethylene designed using extensive computer modeling to maintain proper mass air flow readings and calibration. This MXP air intake system also features provisions for the factory mass airflow sensor.

Installation of either AIRAID MXP air intake system is fast and simple, with highly-detailed instructions. You need only a few basic tools and not more than a couple of hours to increase the power and responsiveness of your 6.2L Camaro. Cleaning your SYNTHAFLOW and SYNTHAMAX filter is simple: clean your AIRAID filter every 30,000 to 50,000 miles for normal driving, or more often if you’re driving off-road or in heavy dust conditions. If you have a SYNTHAMAX filter, spray it with the AIRAID 790-558 premium dry filter cleaning solution. If you have the SYNTHAFLOW filter, the 790-550 kit combines a bottle of cleaner with a bottle of specially-formulated filter oil.
