AIRAID’s one-piece roto-molded intake box replaces the factory piece and utilizes the factory cold air scoop. Blade-style weatherstripping along the top edge of the box seals against the hood to keep the air filter isolated from hot engine compartment air. The box utilizes the factory mounting holes, so there is no drilling or trimming required. An adapter with a built-in velocity stack connects to the factory intake tube.

The Toyota 1GR-FE was an all-aluminum 4.0 L V6 engine designed for longitudinal mounting in pickup and SUV applications. Common in truck engines, the engines is slightly undersquare, with a 3.70 bore and a stroke of 3.74 inches. First generation output is 236 horsepower on 87 octane gasoline, and 239 horsepower on 91 octane fuel. This engine features Toyota's VVT-i, variable valve timing system on the intake cam and a compression ratio of 10.0:1.
For the 2009 model year for the FJ Cruiser and the 2010 model year for the Tacoma, Toyota installed an updated version of this engine features Dual VVT-i, increasing output to 270 horsepower on 87 octane gasoline and 285 horsepower on 91 octane fuel.
