Let Your Vortec Produce More Horsepower and Torque With An AIRAID Cold Air Dam Intake

Although GM performance car engines have most recently carried LS designations, Chevrolet, Cadillac and GMC truck and SUV engines built on this architecture have been marketed under the Vortec name. Early on, the Vortec engines were built around iron cylinder blocks and were offered in smaller displacements than car engines, though that changed quickly.
In 2005, GM upgraded what was known as the Gen III small block engine to a new Gen IV specification, which included a new casting method and the facilities to add modern engine management strategies. Despite the differences between the Gen III and Gen IV, all LS/Vortec engines share some common features. These include the 4.40 inch bore centers, which they share with the original Chevrolet small block, six bolt main bearing caps, and cylinder heads with four bolts per cylinder. In just two model years, 2007 and 2008, four different engines were offered across seven different models of GM trucks and SUVs. They were: the 4.8L, the smallest-displacement Vortec engine which featured an iron block and aluminum heads. The 5.3L, which was the most popular Vortec truck engine, it was, in essence, a 4.8L with a longer stroke and shared the iron block and aluminum cylinder blocks. The 6.0L was installed primarily in ¾ ton and one ton trucks, the 6.0L was available with an iron engine block with aluminum heads or an aluminum block with aluminum heads named the VortecMax. The 6.2L engine is manufactured with an aluminum block and heads, and incorporates variable valve timing. The 6.2L is used primarily as a high-performance engine for the Cadillac Escalade and GMC Yukon Denali. Despite the relative complexity of the various engines available, if you own a Cadillac, Chevrolet, or GMC from 2007 or 2008, AIRAID has a singular solution in the cold air dam (CAD) performance air intake, part number 202-197. The panels mount in the factory air box location and utilize any existing factory cold air inlet ducts, while supplementing air flow with additional cold air passages to the filter.
