2005-2007 Chevrolet Silverado AIRAID Intake Kit Boosts Horsepower and Torque

One of the most popular trucks ever made is the Chevrolet Silverado. Introduced in 1999 as the successor to the Chevrolet C/K, the Silverado has won a plethora of awards between 1999 and 2011. These include:

Five different engines were used to power the first generation (1999-2007) Silverado:

  • Vortec 4300 4.3-liter V6
  • Vortec 4800 4.7-liter V8
  • Vortec 5300 5.3-liter V8
  • Vortec 6000 6.0-liter V8
  • Vortec 8100 8.1-liter V8

The engines were mated to four different transmissions:

  • 4-speed 4L60-E automatic
  • 4-speed 4L65-E automatic
  • 4-speed 4L80-E automatic
  • 5-speed NV3500 manual

The truck was available in a number of light duty models and used the designations 1500 and 2500 along with the Silverado name. They were available in three cab lengths:

Three cargo beds were available

  • 69.2-inches (1,758mm) short box
  • 78.7-inches (1,999mm) standard box
  • 97.6-inches (2,479mm) long box

Chevrolet also introduced the Silverado SS in 2003. The high-performance pickup was based on the 1500 Silverado with upgrades. Standard on the truck was a 6.0-liter Vortec High-Output V8 engine that generated 345-horsepower at 5200 rpm and 380 lb-ft (515 N-m) of torque at 4000 rpm. It was mated to a 4L6SE 4-speed automatic transmission. This was the same engine used on the second generation Cadillac Escalade.

The Silverado SS also featured the Z60 performance suspension and 20-inch aluminum wheels.  The first generation Silverado came as a 2-wheel drive and AWD and used the torsion bar style front suspension for better handling.

A heavy-duty option of the Silverado was also available with the designations 1500HD, 2500HD, and 3500.

The second generation Silverado was in production from 2007 to 2014. There were five engines available to power the vehicle:

  • 4.3-liter V6 195-horsepower
  • 4.8-liter V8 295-horsepower
  • 5.3-liter V8 315-horsepower
  • 6.0-liter V8 360-horsepower
  • 6.2-liter V8 403-horsepower

Four transmission were available:

  • 4-speed 4L60E automatic
  • 4-speed”2-Mode Hybrid transmission”
  • 2ML70 Hybrid
  • 6-speed 6L80 automatic

AIRAID offers the AIRAID 202-169 air intake kit for several Silverado models. Designed to take up the factory location of the air filter, the kit includes an open element air inlet protected by a cold air dam panels that block the hot air and supplies a steady, free flow supply of cooler outside air to the engine. The panels mount on the factory air box and the system integrates any factory cold air inlet ducts that may be present and adds more cold air passages to the filter. The panels also isolate the filter from the hot air of the engine.

The AIRAID 202-169 includes an AIRAID 702-469 universal air filter, which is washable and reusable.

AIRAID also offers the 790-558 air filter cleaning kit that is specially formulated to clean and recharge the air filter for multiple use.
